Known for hands-on learning and an emphasis on applied knowledge, BODY HARMONICS Institute for Movement & Exercise has been meeting the needs of professionals in all fields where movement education plays a key role.
Pilates and yoga teachers, physiotherapists, massage therapists, osteopaths, personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and health and wellbeing enthusiasts benefit from our approach because every course is based on making movement functional regardless of age or ability.
Our multi-level program has one goal: to produce highly trained movement educators ready to meet the needs of a diverse clientele. Built upon the principles of adult education, our curriculum help develop the skills, expert movement educators use with clients everyday in a variety of environments. Our mandate is to empower teachers to help their clients with discovering the limitless potential that optimal movement provides.
There is a tangible gap out there between the research on human movement and what is being taught to the lay person. Our role vis-a-vis movement education is to simplify complex concepts, provide a framework for assessment and offer step by step solutions that are easily transferable to the client or patient.
Margot McKinnon, Founder
Scope of Program
Drawing from neuroscience, anatomy, biomechanics and physiology, BODY HARMONICS is committed to delivering comprehensive teacher training that shifts the paradigm and emphasizes quality of movement and optimal neuromuscular engagement first. Working inside a theoretical framework based on functional anatomy and somatic education, we train teachers in both the art and science of movement. Our objective is to produce movement educators who rely on a critical reflective process to determine the best practices for every person and situation.
The extensive backdrop of movement education has allowed BODY HARMONICS to move beyond the typical Pilates repertoire to include keen kinesthetic awareness and movement re-education as the cornerstones of the entire program. As a result, teachers learn to deliver programming that helps the average person improve strength, flexibility, posture and most importantly, a positive attitude towards themselves as movers. The emphasis on adult education means teachers receive in-depth training on how to make a Pilates program relevant, personalized, proactive and ultimately part of a daily routine.
With critically acclaimed teacher training, a best-in-class mentorship program, satellite training centres and two thriving studios in Toronto, Canada, BODY HARMONICS exemplifies an unwavering commitment to high standards. We have trained individuals from across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Our graduates work in studios, rehabilitation centres, hospital settings, gyms and fitness clubs, as well as spas and wellness centres.
