Description

This workshop springboards from Neurophysiology 101 where knowledge of the inner workings of the human nervous system is applied to specialized populations such as spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

This workshop will provide knowledge about what happens to the nervous system when things go wrong and how this affects movement. You will learn how to design exercise programs that target these special populations to enhance their movement potential.

Prerequisite: Neurophysiology 101

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a basic understanding of the neurophysiology with respect to neurological impairments, such as spinal cord injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis
  • Learn different cuing techniques (both verbal and nonverbal) to effect change in the movement patterns for individuals with neurological impairments
  • Learn how to design exercise programs for individuals with neurological impairments
