Additional Information

Sessions must be taken in the designated order, but because our Pilates Mat Work Intensive is modular you can design your course work schedule to match your personal schedule. We recommend completing the three steps within 3 to 6 months.

  • Module 1: Mat Work Foundations

Pre-requisite: Anatomy in Motion, Anatomy in Motion or equivalent

Mat Work Foundations is your first step into the miracle of human motion. 26 Foundations exercises designed to promote optimal movement for the spine and pelvic and shoulder girdles are presented in detail as the cornerstones of the entire Body Harmonics Teacher Training Program. At this level of training, complex concepts are broken down and presented in a practical way with lots of interactive labs and master classes with an emphasis on kinesthetic learning.

This allows you to experience the profound impact these simple movement sequences have on the function of our neuromuscular system without total information overload. Over three days you will gain a clear understanding of what each exercise looks like, how to execute each one properly, how to detect improper execution, and how to modify effectively for people of all ability levels. You also learn the historical roots and the nine major principles of The Pilates Method, plus a framework for designing Mat Work classes that keep people coming back year after year!

  • Module 2: Classic and Innovations

Pre-requisite: Module 1: Mat Work Foundations

Mat Work Classics and Innovations is where you start putting everything together. It is where the art and science of Pilates starts to take shape. The three days stimulates on every level with a mix of master classes, lecture, small group labs, practice teaching and observation. We emphasize the how to’s of effective teaching and share our Top Ten list of what it takes to be successful in this field. By the end of three days you know how to make Mat Work is accessible, challenging, fun and safe for people of all abilities. Each student has the opportunity to teach the group and receive personalized feedback and coaching on next steps of development as a Body Harmonics Mat Work Teacher.

  • Module 3: Core Integrity

Pre-requisite: Module 2: Classic and Innovations

“CORE” is a popular (yet misunderstood) buzz word in any fitness environment. And, we know a strong core is key to optimal function, balance and equilibrium. But the question remains: how can we best facilitate effective core control and still create programs that appeal to average people who can’t connect to subtle movements and deep, inner muscles?

In this workshop we take a global approach to the concept of CORE and analyse both the inner and outer cylinders of support. These “core systems” help produce support and movement for the entire body as they criss cross and spiral the torso. In depth analysis is followed by observation and self-practice using specific exercises for each layer so you leave with a clear plan on how to ensure optimal function and create a “wow I’ve never felt my core work this hard before” feel.

  • Module 4: Practical

    Pre-requisite: Module 3: Core Integrity

In Module 4 you learn how to accurately observe human movement and how to use hands-on techniques for effective fine tuning. Teaching labs focus on helping you refine your cueing and instructional skills.
